Australian High Commissioner Discusses Digital Initiatives with Pakistan’s IT Minister


Islamabad: Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Mr. Neil Hawkins, met with the Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication, Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja, to discuss a broad range of issues including digitalization, cybersecurity, and potential collaborations between Australia and Pakistan. The meeting highlighted ongoing projects and future plans in the IT sector under the current government’s National Digitalization Plan.



According to Press Information Department, the discussions covered topics such as the importance of robust fiberization to facilitate 5G technology, the significance of reducing the digital gender divide, and the possibility of initiating a startup exchange program between the two countries. The meeting, which took place in the minister’s office, also saw the presence of Director General International Coordination, MoITT Syed Jawwad Ali Sherazi, emphasizing the collaborative effort on both sides to enhance bilateral relations and technological advancements.



Minister Khawaja reiterated the government’s commitment to digitalizing the economy, governance, and societal functions, outlining the pivotal role of digitalization as a top priority. She also mentioned the ongoing efforts to implement the National Fiberization Policy, which is deemed crucial for the success of future digital initiatives, including the deployment of 5G technology.



The discussions underscored the mutual interest in strengthening cooperation in the IT and telecommunication sectors, reflecting a shared vision for enhanced connectivity and technological empowerment.
