Islamabad, December 21, 2022 (PPI-OT):Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan Mr. Neil Hawkins called on Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf in Parliament House today. The Speaker said that enhancing parliamentary interactions and economic cooperation would be beneficial for both countries. While expressing dismay and concern on the rising insurgency and terrorist activities in the country, the Speaker said that the Pakistani people and government have resolved to eliminate insurgency and rising terrorism at every cost.
He said that the Pakistani nation is resolute enough to emerge victorious out of present socio-economic challenges. He said that Pakistan has been tackling the severe impacts of recent floods and he appreciated the support of the Australian people and government in this hour of need. He also appreciated the support of the Australian government to support initiatives of the Australian government to support Pakistan in ensuring water and food security, especially in Sindh.
The Speaker also stressed on the need to further develop contact between the business communities of both countries to tap the massive economic potential in Pakistan. He also said, “Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Australia which are close people-to-people contacts and passion for cricket.”
He also said that both countries are members of the Commonwealth and federations with bicameral legislatures. He also informed the Australian High Commissioner that the Pakistani Parliamentary delegation will participate in the 26th Conference of the Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) in Canberra from January 3-6, 2023.
The Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan appreciated the support of the Pakistani government and people to support Afghanistan refugees in Pakistan. He said that it is heartening to note that Afghanistan refugees are being provided basic facilities like health and education. He also reiterated the Australian government’s resolve to support the Pakistani people and government to eliminate insurgency and tackle food security challenges.
