Australia-Pakistan Talks Focus on Boosting Meat Exports

Islamabad: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Mr. Haroon Akhtar Khan, held a meeting with the Acting High Commissioner of Australia to Pakistan, Ms. Nicole Guihot, to explore opportunities for enhancing Pakistan’s meat exports. The discussion also included Secretary Industries and Production, Mr. Saif Anjum, and representatives from the meat exporting community.

The talks centered on identifying challenges facing the meat industry and seeking Australian technical and institutional support to overcome them. Mr. Khan reiterated the government’s commitment, under the guidance of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, to incentivize exports and foster international partnerships. He noted that Pakistan’s halal certification provides a competitive advantage in the global market, potentially driving substantial revenue.

Mr. Khan emphasized the ongoing cooperation between Pakistan and Australia in the dairy sector and the potential benefits of extending this collaboration to meat exports. He highlighted the importance of technical assistance and joint research with Australia in achieving export goals.

Ms. Guihot acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts and reaffirmed Australia’s support through expertise, training, and agricultural cooperation. She praised the contribution of Pakistani workers in Australia and highlighted the country’s role as a popular destination for Pakistani students. Both parties expressed a commitment to strengthening bilateral relations through mutual trust and cooperation in various sectors.
