Attaullah Tarar Discusses Ongoing Consensus Building for Constitutional Amendment

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, announced that political consultations are in progress to develop a consensus on a proposed constitutional amendment, emphasizing the government’s commitment to inclusivity in the process.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, speaking alongside PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi, Tarar highlighted the democratic nature of the ongoing consultations, involving all political parties. Despite having a sufficient majority to pass the amendment, the government prefers to seek a broad consensus, underscoring the importance of unity in national governance.

Tarar also addressed the national duty of the government to include all parties in the amendment process, stressing that efforts are being made to conclude these consultations promptly. Additionally, Abbasi criticized the politics of agitation and asserted that the government would not tolerate actions that weaken state institutions or challenge the government’s authority.

In response to questions about recent disturbances and misinformation, Tarar reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards those attempting to create chaos and disrupt peace. He affirmed that no amnesty would be offered to national criminals, mentioning the identification of individuals spreading false news about a molestation case. The minister also denied any violence against students in recent protests, attributing the unrest to an organized campaign and noting that legal actions have been initiated against the responsible parties.
