Islamabad: UNICEF has issued a strong condemnation of the recent attack in Mastung, Balochistan, Pakistan, which reportedly resulted in the deaths of at least five children and left many others injured, including schoolchildren. The organization expressed its condolences to the families affected and wished those injured a swift recovery.
According to United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, the explosion occurred near a school while children were in attendance. UNICEF emphasized that violence in or around educational institutions and health facilities is unacceptable. The organization stressed that schools should be safe places for children to learn, interact with peers, and acquire skills for their future. It highlighted that no parent should fear for their child’s safety when sending them to school.
UNICEF reiterated that children and adolescents must never be the targets of violence and that their safety and protection should be guaranteed at all times. The organization called for an end to the ongoing violence and urged for the protection and safety of all children to be prioritized.
