Assam Rifles Soldier Commits Suicide Amidst Conflict in Manipur


Imphal: In a distressing incident in Manipur, a 57-year-old soldier from the Indian Army’s Assam Rifles, Gunanand Chaube, committed suicide at his base in the Motbung area of Kangpokpi district. The soldier’s death adds to the concerns about the impact of ongoing regional conflicts on the mental health of military personnel.



According to Kashmir Media Service, Chaube took his own life using his service rifle at the Company Operating Base of Alpha Company. Authorities have yet to determine a motive for his actions, as no suicide note was discovered at the scene. A formal investigation has been initiated to explore the factors leading to this tragic event, amid the broader backdrop of violence and instability in the state of Manipur.
