New Delhi: The Assam police have arrested 37 individuals in the wake of the Pahalgam attack, according to a statement from the state’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma. The arrests were made on charges of defending Pakistan in the context of the attack.
The Chief Minister, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, stated that those detained would face strict action from the Assam Police. His comments were made in a post on X, a social media platform.
The arrests follow a broader effort in northeastern states to curb criticism of BJP policies on social media. The crackdown has been particularly active in Assam, Tripura, and Meghalaya.
The most recent arrest took place on May 2 in Dhubri, where a man named Amar Ali was detained. This action is part of the ongoing campaign against what authorities describe as “anti-India” elements.
The information regarding these arrests was reported by Kashmir Media Service.
