Asim Iftikhar Ahmad Briefs Arab Group on South Asia Tensions

New York: Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, engaged with the Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives of the Arab Group in New York to discuss the current regional situation in South Asia.

Ambassador Ahmad detailed Pakistan’s measured and proportionate response to what he described as an act of aggression by India, emphasizing the actions taken were in accordance with the country’s right to self-defense under the UN Charter.

He criticized India’s unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, labeling it as provocative and in violation of international law and the UN Charter. The ambassador stressed Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining the ceasefire and pursuing de-escalation efforts to ensure regional stability.

Ambassador Ahmad also highlighted inflammatory rhetoric from Indian leaders, asserting that lasting peace in South Asia hinges on resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
