Ashrafi Advocates for Pulpit and Arch in Promoting Islam’s True Message


Islamabad, Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi, Prime Minister’s Special Representative on Religious Affairs and Pakistani Diaspora in the Middle East and Muslim Countries, emphasized the significant role of the pulpit and arch (Mehrab-o-Mimbr) in conveying the true message of Islam. During a degree awarding ceremony at Jamea Madinia Marhaba Masjid, Ashrafi highlighted these elements’ effectiveness in educating the populace and countering disinformation.



According to Press Information Department, Ashrafi, who also chairs the Pakistan Ulema Council, elaborated on the historical importance of pulpits and arches in Islamic teaching. He pointed out their potential in reaching communities nationwide and promoting authentic Islamic values. The Special Representative stressed that these platforms enable religious leaders to engage directly with the masses, fostering a comprehensive understanding of Islam’s core principles.



In a time when disinformation spreads quickly, Ashrafi underscored the need for continuous education to effectively counter misinformation. He stressed the pulpit and arch’s role in combating negative propaganda against national interests, contending that they can actively steer the country towards progress. The government plans to work with religious leaders to use these spaces for spreading messages that promote unity and national progress.



Ashrafi outlined plans to collaborate with religious scholars and institutions across the country, utilizing pulpits and arches for educational and social reform purposes. He mentioned the development of educational programs and materials to be distributed through mosques, using these structures as community learning centers.



Furthermore, Ashrafi announced the ‘Namaz-e-Istisqa’ initiative, a nationwide prayer scheduled for Friday, to seek divine intervention for rainfall amid Pakistan’s challenging weather conditions. He emphasized the initiative’s role in addressing the dry weather’s potential impact on agriculture and water resources.



The ceremony concluded with Ashrafi and other religious leaders awarding certificates and cash prizes to protectors of the Holy Quran, marking their contributions to religious education and preservation.
