As per directions of Prime Minister Imran Khan, IG Punjab chaired a joint meeting of Lahore Police and administration

Lahore, June 22, 2021 (PPI-OT): Inspector General of Police Punjab Inam Ghani said that in accordance with the vision and instructions of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, eradication of drugs from the society and making people instrumental individual of the society who are suffering from the scourge of drugs and living away from the vicissitudes of life is an important duty for which Punjab Police and District Administration have decided to start a pilot project in Lahore.

He further said that a major project is being launched from Lahore as a pilot project in collaboration with Lahore Police District Administration to rid Lahore of drug addicts lying on the sidewalks, footpaths around highways, gardens and shrines. These drug addicts will be relocated to rehabilitation centres set up by the district administration so that they can get rid of drug addiction through rehabilitation programs. He further said that the Commissioner Lahore would immediately arrange for the establishment of a rehabilitation centre for the treatment and rehabilitation of these addicts whereas the Lahore police would rehabilitate the drug addicts at least twice a day by removing them from the footpaths and roads and hand over to the management of the centres.

He further said that assistance would also be sought from the Social Welfare Department and the Health Department to eradicate the menace of drugs and for this purpose the Commissioner Lahore would liaise closely with them for assistance from efficient non-governmental organizations (NGOs). IGP added that Police, ANF and district administration will take joint action against drug smugglers and drug dealers in Punjab, especially in Lahore, and indiscriminate action will be taken against any dera, cafe, educational institution or any place where drug sale or use is reported. He further said that citizens can report drug dealing or drug addicts to the police through Punjab Police’s “Zindagi App” and citizens can easily download “Zindagi App” from Google App Store. He made the remarks while presiding over a meeting held at the Central Police Office here today. CCPO Lahore Ghulam Mahmood Dogar, Commissioner Lahore, Capt (R) Usman and DIG IT, Waqas Nazir were present.

During the meeting, drug trafficking and other issues related to drug addicts were discussed in detail in Lahore. The IG Punjab urged the officers to carry out intelligence-based operations on a daily basis to eradicate the supply chain network of drug dealers and bring the anti-social elements involved in the nefarious smuggling to book and punish them severely.

He further said that action should be taken against the owners of cafes, clubs, farmhouses and deras involved in making and selling fashionable intoxicants and flavours including ice (meth) so that no effort is left in eradicating the disease. He further asked the Commissioner Lahore that drug addicts deserve special treatment and attention so that there should be no reduction in the provision of facilities for the treatment of these persons in rehabilitation centres. He further said that after the success of the Lahore pilot project, these operations would be carried out in all the city districts, so the police and district administration officers should personally monitor the day-to-day operations of the project.
