Lahore, May 13, 2023 (PPI-OT): The Pakistan Police Sports Board has handed over the special Olympic torch lit in connection with the 34th National Games to the President of WAPDA Sports Board while hosting it at the Central Police Office.
According to the details, the National Games Olympic Torch lit in the series of 34th National Games starting from May 22 in Quetta, 20 athletes of Punjab Police started the journey of the Olympic Torch Rally along with Dolphin Squad Bikes from the office of Pakistan Olympic Association and from Regal Chowk via Mall road and Punjab Public Library reached Central Police Office.
The National Games Olympic Torch Rally, which started its journey by vehicle, left for CPO office on foot from Bashir Sons Chowk. Taekwondo players handed over the National Games Olympic Torch to weightlifting athletes at Tolanton Market Square who proceeded on foot to hand over the National Games Olympic Torch to Archery team near Punjab Public Library.
Mounted police force at the gate of Central Police Office took the leadership of the National Games Olympic Torch Rally. At the CPO entry, National and International Athlete and Islamic Games Gold Medallist Inspector Iram handed over the National Games Olympic Torch to Director General Pakistan Police Sports Board and Additional IG Welfare and Finance Riaz Nazir Gara.
A special ceremony was organized on the arrival of the National Games Olympic Torch at the Central Police Office which was hosted by DIG Logistics Athar Ismail. Secretary of the Management Committee of the 34th National Games, Secretary Youth and Sports Affairs Balochistan Muhammad Ishaq Jamali, Vice President of Pakistan Olympic Association Captain (retd) Syed Abid Qadri, Secretary General Pakistan Olympic Association Muhammad Khalid Mehmood, GM Sports WAPDA, Imdad Ullah Memon, WAPDA Sports Board General Secretary Umair Aslam Malik, AIG Logistics Ismail Kharak and other players, coaches, veterans and notable personalities participated.
25 teams and 404 players of Punjab Police are participating in the 34th National Games which would be held in Quetta. Police athletes are participating in sports events including Kabaddi, Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Baseball Body Building, Judo, Karate, Rowing, Shooting, Taekwondo, and Tug of War, Wrestling, Wushu and Weightlifting among others.
Honorary souvenirs were given to former players of Pakistan Police Qasim Khan, Qazi Shaheen, Mazhar Farid, Gulfam Shehzadi, Ikram Ullah Malik, Malik Ijaz Ali, Agha Nasir, Aqeel Butt, Rana Shabbir, Shiraz Khan, Iram Khanum and Tahir Waheed in the ceremony.
In connection with the National Games, IG Punjab held several meetings with Punjab Police players, Patrons, Coaches, Managers at the CPO and encouraged them by announcing prizes for success in national level competitions. IG Punjab said that the player who won the gold medal in the individual competitions of the National Games would be given 3 lakh rupees, 02 lakh rupees for the silver medallist, 01 lakh rupees for the bronze medal and CC1.
Similarly, to each player of the winning teams in the team competitions, 50,000 rupees each player and CC1 would be given while the players of the second and third position teams would be given 25,000 per player and CC1 certificates.
In the ceremony held at Central Police Office, Additional IG Welfare and Finance Riaz Nazir Gara handed over the Olympic Torch to the President WAPDA Sports Board and WAPDA team squad took the Olympic torch towards WAPDA Sports Complex.
