Jammu, located in the region referred to as Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, an armed police inspector lost his life when his service rifle discharged within a security facility.
According to a news release by Kashmir Media Service, officials reported that the officer, identified as Gurdeep Singh, 48, from the 7th battalion of Jammu and Kashmir armed police, sustained a gunshot wound from his own service rifle. The incident took place inside the battalion headquarters at Channi Himmat, situated on the city’s periphery.
After the incident, Gurdeep Singh was promptly transported to the Government Medical College hospital in Jammu, but unfortunately, he did not survive the injury.
To determine the exact circumstances leading to the inspector’s demise — specifically if the weapon’s discharge was accidental or intentional — the police have initiated inquest proceedings. Subsequent to his death, the inspector’s remains were transferred to the hospital’s mortuary to undergo a post-mortem examination. The bereaved family of the deceased has been informed of the tragic event, as per the officials.
