Srinagar, The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has issued a stark warning about the implications of India’s Hindutva policies for the stability of South Asia, emphasizing the urgency of addressing the situation in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesperson Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas articulated the organization’s deep concerns, stating that India’s aggressive Hindutva agenda, exemplified by the revocation of Articles 370 and 35A, not only undermines the prospects for peace in Kashmir but also poses a broader threat to regional harmony.
The APHC lauded the resilience of detained Kashmiri leaders who continue to champion the cause of self-determination despite facing significant repression. The spokesperson underscored that Indian attempts at quashing the freedom movement through draconian measures have been unsuccessful.
Moreover, the APHC denounced the rampant state-sanctioned violence and the unwarranted detention of over four thousand Hurriyat leaders, activists, and defenders of human rights in IIOJK. The organization called upon international human rights bodies, including the United Nations Human Rights Council, Amnesty International, and Human Rights Watch, to pressure India into releasing all unlawfully detained individuals.
Among those mentioned were notable figures such as APHC chairman Masarrat Aalam Butt, Muhammad Yasin Malik, and Aasiya Andrabi, highlighting the widespread crackdown on political dissent and the suppression of human rights in the region.
This appeal from the APHC comes at a critical juncture, as it seeks to draw international attention to the grave human rights violations in IIOJK and the broader implications of India’s domestic policies on South Asian stability.
