APHC Reaffirms Commitment to Peaceful Kashmir Resolution

Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference has reiterated its commitment to pursuing a peaceful resolution to the Kashmir conflict in accordance with United Nations resolutions. This assertion comes amidst concerns over the unresolved status of the dispute, which has persisted for over 77 years and has been a cause of conflict between India and Pakistan.

Abdul Rashid Minhas, the APHC spokesman, highlighted the significance of acknowledging the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. Speaking to a Kashmir Media Service correspondent, Minhas emphasized the Hurriyat’s dedication to peaceful dialogue and cooperation among the parties involved in the dispute to achieve a resolution. He expressed concern over what he described as the Indian government’s unilateral actions that have complicated the issue and disempowered the Kashmiri populace.

Established in 1993, the APHC was initiated as a political effort to support a resolution based on the democratic principle of respecting the will of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, as outlined in United Nations resolutions. Minhas underscored that the struggle of the Kashmiris is centered on justice, peace, political rights, and identity, drawing parallels to the historical period under Dogra rule.

Minhas noted the significant changes following August 2019, which saw the disputed territory divided into Union Territories. He claimed that these changes have resulted in the loss of resources, rights, and identity for the Kashmiri people. Furthermore, the deployment of Indian armed forces and external influences in administrative posts has been viewed as a violation of international laws.

The Kashmir conflict, Minhas asserted, is not a battle against any individual or party, but rather against perceived injustice and occupation. He emphasized the international dimension of the dispute and expressed concern over the escalating tensions in the region. Criticizing India’s alleged anti-Pakistan rhetoric during its elections, he urged the United Nations and its members to take action to resolve the Kashmir issue in accordance with the aspirations of its people, as promised by the United Nations.
