APHC Raises Alarm on Plight of Kashmiri Political Detainees

Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference has voiced serious concerns regarding the condition of Hurriyat leaders and activists detained across various jails in India and Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The detainees, are being subjected to harsh conditions due to their opposition to India’s rule in the region.

According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesman Abdul Rashid Minhas issued a statement from Srinagar, claiming that Kashmiri detainees are being victimized as part of India’s strategy to suppress their push for self-determination. The spokesman noted that detainees are suffering from severe health issues, exacerbated by inadequate access to medical care and poor living conditions in the jails.

The APHC has called on international human rights organizations, including the UN Human Rights Council, Amnesty International, and Human Rights Watch, to intervene and facilitate the release of these prisoners. The spokesman emphasized the urgency of their plight, citing health concerns as a critical issue.

Additionally, the APHC reminded United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres of the long-overdue right of Kashmiris to self-determination. The statement criticized the Indian government’s treatment of Kashmiri Muslims and accused it of ignoring international human rights standards, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and UN reports on the region.

The APHC has urged the United Nations to send a delegation to the region to evaluate the conditions faced by the Kashmiri people and the detainees.
