Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has paid tributes to the victims of the Sopore massacre, marking the 32nd anniversary of the event.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Hurriyat leaders Mohammad Khan Sopori, Saleem Zargar, Syed Bashir Andrabi, Khawaja Firdous, Junaidul Islam, Imtiyaz Rishi, Maulana Musaib Nadvi, and others issued statements in Srinagar emphasizing that the sacrifices of Kashmiri martyrs will not be in vain. They called upon the international community to investigate the massacres conducted by Indian forces in the region over the past 36 years.
In addition, several Hurriyat activists visited the Mazar-e-Shuhada in Sopore town to honor the martyrs. A prayer meeting was also held at the APHC Azad Jammu and Kashmir office, led by Convenor Ghulam Mohammad Sufi, to pay tribute to the Sopore victims.
During the gathering, Convenor Ghulam Mohammad Sufi highlighted the significance of January 6, 1993, as a tragic day in the history of occupied Kashmir, recounting the massacre where Indian forces opened fire on unarmed civilians in Sopore. The attack resulted in the deaths of 57 individuals, with many others injured and some burned alive, followed by several areas of the town being set ablaze.
