APHC Leaders Criticize UN Silence Over Kashmir Situation

Srinagar, Leaders of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) have criticized the United Nations for its silence on what they describe as Indian state terrorism in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, citing this as a cause of continued suffering for the Kashmiri people.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the APHC leaders, including Professor Abdul Ghani Butt, Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori, Advocate Arshad Iqbal, Ms. Hafza Bano, and Maulana Musaib Nadvi, issued statements in Srinagar highlighting over seven decades of turmoil in occupied Kashmir. They accused Indian troops of committing human rights violations under draconian laws to suppress the Kashmir freedom movement. They condemned these actions as war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The leaders stated that the presence of over one million Indian troops has made occupied Kashmir the most militarized zone in the world. They emphasized that peace in South Asia hinges on resolving the Kashmir issue in accordance with UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. They questioned the duration of Indian repression in Kashmir and how many more Kashmiris must suffer before the UN takes action.

The APHC leaders argued that the resolution of the Kashmir dispute lies in the implementation of relevant UN resolutions. They urged the UN to act and intervene in the situation to prevent further atrocities by the Modi regime in occupied Kashmir. Their statements highlighted the need for the UN to move beyond its current stance of inaction, which they believe emboldens India’s policies in the region.

In a related development, APHC-AJK leaders in Islamabad, including Mushtaq Ahmed Butt, echoed these sentiments. They pointed out that Kashmiris have been making sacrifices for their right to self-determination for over seventy-six years and appealed to the UN to resolve the Kashmir dispute in line with its resolutions.
