APHC Leaders Criticize Indian Supreme Court’s Ruling on Kashmir’s Special Status

Srinagar, Leaders of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) and affiliated parties have strongly criticized the Indian Supreme Court’s recent verdict regarding the special status of Kashmir, claiming that it reveals the biases of the Indian judiciary.

According to Kashmir Media Service, various leaders and representatives, including Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples League, Farida Behenji of the Jammu and Kashmir Mass Movement, and Shafiq-ur-Rehman of the Jammu and Kashmir National Front, among others, have issued statements in Srinagar. They contend that the Indian Supreme Court’s decision endorses the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) agenda to control Kashmir, its people, land, and resources by any means.

The leaders argued that such an authoritarian approach, contradicting norms of justice, might consolidate the Indian government’s control over Kashmir but will not suppress the resistance of the Kashmiri people against Indian occupation. They expressed disappointment that the Indian judiciary missed an opportunity to alleviate the plight of the Kashmiri people by delivering a judicious and reasonable judgment.

The statements highlighted that the Supreme Court ruling contradicts the United Nations charter and resolutions, which recognize the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination and acknowledge the region’s disputed status. This ruling, they maintain, goes against the spirit of international law and fails to address the core issues in the Kashmir conflict.
