APHC Leaders Commemorate 30th Anniversary of Bijbehara Massacre Victims

Srinagar, The leaders of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) remembered and paid tribute to the victims of the Bijbehara massacre on its 30th anniversary.

According to a news release by Kashmir Media Service, the tragic event took place on October 22, 1993, in the Bijbehara area of Islamabad district. Over 50 Kashmiri individuals lost their lives when personnel from the Indian Border Security Force fired upon peaceful demonstrators. The protestors were voicing their opposition to the Indian military’s siege of the Hazratbal shrine in Srinagar.

Numerous APHC leaders, including Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori, Syed Bashir Andrabi, Khawaja Firdous, Abdul Ahad Parra, Saleem Zargar, Yasmeen Raja, and others, issued separate statements in Srinagar. They emphasized that the sacrifices made by the Kashmiri martyrs will not be in vain and expressed hope for a future where Kashmiris achieve freedom and the political justice they believe has been denied since 1947 by the Indian government.

The leaders further called on the United Nations and other global human rights entities to intervene, expressing concerns over perceived efforts by India to change the demographic makeup of Jammu and Kashmir. They pointed to incidents where they believe Indian troops targeted innocent Kashmiris, alleging a plot to diminish the Muslim majority in the region.

Separately, the Convener of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir chapter, Mahmood Ahmad Saghar, joined by Sheikh Abdul Mateen and Imtiaz Wani, issued a statement from Islamabad. They underlined that the sacrifices of the Kashmiri martyrs have brought the Kashmir dispute to global attention and asserted that their mission will be seen through. Saghar urged the global community to acknowledge the situation in the occupied territory and to work towards a peaceful resolution in line with UN resolutions.
