Srinagar, In a unified voice, leaders and parties of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) have urged the United Nations to honor its obligations by implementing the historic resolution passed on 5th January 1949, which recognizes the right to self-determination for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC leader Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori stressed in Srinagar the need for international intervention to halt the severe human rights violations by Indian forces in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). He lamented the continued unresolved status of the Kashmir dispute despite numerous UN resolutions and bilateral agreements between India and Pakistan.
Bilal Ahmed Siddiqui, an incarcerated APHC leader, reiterated the long-standing wait of the Kashmiri people for the UN to act on its resolution granting them the right to self-determination.
APHC leaders, including Zamrooda Habib, Yasmeen Raja, and Farida Bahenji, emphasized the 5th January 1949 resolution’s role in establishing self-determination as the most democratic and peaceful resolution method in contemporary times.
APHC leader Muhammad Yousuf Naqash called on the UN to honor its commitment and grant the Kashmiris their right to self-determination, stating that the Kashmiris reject any alternatives to the UN resolutions.
Hurriyat leaders Maulana Musaib Nadvi and Israr Ahmad reminded the UN of its responsibility to resolve the Kashmir dispute as per its resolutions. They pointed out the escalation in Indian atrocities since the abrogation of Kashmir’s special status on 5th August 2019.
APHC leaders Fayaz Hussain Jafari and Syed Sabte Shabbir Qummi jointly stated that the unresolved Kashmir dispute raises serious questions about the UN’s credibility. They called for the dispute’s resolution in line with UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
APHC leader Imrtiyaz Reshi criticized the international community’s indifference towards the Kashmiri people’s suffering, urging global powers to act against India’s military oppression.
Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party spokesman Advocate Arshad Iqbal highlighted the urgent need for the international community, particularly the UN, to actively resolve the Kashmir dispute, which has caused widespread destruction since 1947.
The Jammu and Kashmir National Front (JKNF) spokesman, Shafiqur Rehman, urged the UN to implement the 5th January 1949 resolution, calling it the most feasible solution to the Kashmir dispute.
APHC-AJK leaders in Islamabad condemned India’s colonization of disputed Jammu and Kashmir territory, urging the UN and world powers to act in defense of Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.
The Institute of Peace and Development stated that peace in South Asia hinges on resolving the Kashmir and Palestine issues justly.
Abdul Hameed Lone, Hurriyat leader and Vice Chairman of Friends of Kashmir International, in a letter to the UN Secretary-General, stressed Jammu and Kashmir as a UN-recognized disputed territory, calling for UNSC intervention for its early and peaceful resolution as per relevant UN resolutions.
