Srinagar, Professor Abdul Ghani Butt, a senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), has strongly condemned the recent verdict of the Indian Supreme Court regarding the special status of occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He accused the Indian superior judiciary of being consistently biased against the region and its predominantly Muslim population.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Professor Butt, in a statement issued in Srinagar, criticized India’s tactics of bifurcation and demographic alteration in Jammu and Kashmir. He remarked that such actions, aimed at transforming the Muslim-majority status of the region into a minority, would only bring humiliation and disgrace to India.
Professor Butt denounced the Indian judiciary’s disregard for truth and justice, referencing a former Supreme Court Chief Justice’s decision in the case of Kashmiri leader Muhammad Afzal Guru as an appeasement of Hindu extremist sentiments. He deplored the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, made on August 5, 2019, as biased and deplorable.
The Kashmiri leader also highlighted India’s desire to control the rivers flowing in Jammu and Kashmir, cautioning the Indian leadership to heed the lessons of history where force-based successes are short-lived. He cited the situation in occupied Palestine as a warning to Indian authorities.
Professor Butt urged New Delhi to abandon its politics of threats and intimidation and to seek a sustainable resolution to the Kashmir conflict, stressing that peace in South Asia and the world is contingent upon resolving this long-standing dispute.
Additionally, APHC leader Yasmeen Raja, in a separate statement, labeled the Indian Supreme Court’s verdict as a violation of UN resolutions and international laws. She asserted that the Kashmiris firmly reject this ruling, vowing that their struggle for freedom from Indian occupation would persist.
These statements reflect the heightened tensions and ongoing resistance in Jammu and Kashmir in response to India’s legal and political maneuvers in the region.
