APHC Honors Martyrs of Gaw Kadal Massacre on Anniversary

Srinagar, The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leaders and affiliated organizations have commemorated the martyrdom anniversary of the Gaw Kadal massacre victims, reaffirming their commitment to the Kashmiri people’s struggle for self-determination.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the tragic event of January 21, 1990, in the Gaw Kadal area of Srinagar, resulted in the death of over 50 people and injuries to hundreds. Indian troops opened fire on peaceful protesters who were demonstrating against the molestation of several women by Indian troops the night before.

In their separate statements issued in Srinagar, prominent APHC leaders and organizations, including Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori, Farida Bahenji, Khawaja Firdous, Syed Bashir Andrabi, Muhammad Shafi Lone, Muhammad Aqib, Dr Musaib, Advocate Davinder Singh Behl, Fayyaz Hussain Jafari, Syed Sibte Shabbir Qummi, Malik Noor Muhammad Fayaz, Abdul Samad Inqilabi, and human rights activist Muhammad Ahsan Untoo, as well as groups like the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party, Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, People’s Freedom League, and Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, paid rich tributes to the victims of the Gaw Kadal massacre.

They emphasized that the sacrifices made by the Kashmiri people over the last seven decades in pursuit of their right to self-determination have been unprecedented and will not be in vain. The leaders and organizations vowed that the Kashmiris would continue their struggle and ultimately fulfill the mission of their martyrs, regardless of the challenges.
