APHC Highlights Dire Human Rights Situation in Kashmir

Srinagar, The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has issued a stark warning regarding the deteriorating human rights situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), describing the conditions as akin to living “under the shadow of a war.” The organization, representing a broad coalition of groups in Kashmir, has voiced grave concerns over the suppression of fundamental freedoms and widespread human rights abuses by Indian forces.

According to Kashmir Media Service, a spokesperson from the APHC released a statement in Srinagar, detailing the severe restrictions on freedom of expression, rampant arbitrary arrests, and invasive house raids conducted by Indian troops, paramilitary forces, and investigative agencies such as the NIA and SIA. The spokesperson criticized the heavy military presence in the region, which has effectively transformed IIOJK into a vast, open-air prison, hosting over one million Indian troops.

The resilience of the Kashmiri people in the face of what the APHC describes as the world’s largest military occupation was highlighted, with particular emphasis on their continued resistance against India’s attempts to suppress their struggle for self-determination. Despite facing brutal tactics like the ‘Catch and Kill’ and ‘Operation All Out,’ aimed at quelling dissent, the Kashmiri resistance movement remains undeterred, the statement noted.

The APHC’s communication also underscored the unyielding spirit of the Kashmiri population, whose legitimate demands for the right to self-determination have only grown stronger in response to India’s repressive measures. The spokesman called upon the United Nations to recognize the severity of the situation, urging the international body to intervene and halt the ongoing human rights violations and acts of state terrorism perpetrated by India in the region.

Furthermore, the APHC made a pressing appeal for the resolution of the Kashmir dispute, citing its potential as a nuclear flashpoint and a significant threat to global peace and stability. The statement concluded with a call to the international community and the United Nations to fulfill their obligations by facilitating a resolution in accordance with UN resolutions, honoring the sacrifices made by the Kashmiri people in their quest for freedom.
