Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has raised serious concerns about the deteriorating health of its detained leaders and activists in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), urging for their immediate release.
According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesperson Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas issued a statement in Srinagar highlighting the prolonged imprisonment of Hurriyat leaders and activists on what he described as false charges. Many of these detainees, held in Indian jails as well as facilities in IIOJK, are suffering from severe health issues and are being denied essential medical care. Minhas stated that despite critical health concerns, these prisoners are not being presented in court, and their unlawful detentions are being continuously extended.
Among the detainees mentioned are APHC Chairman Masrrat Alam Butt, Shabir Ahmed Shah, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Asiya Andrabi, and many others, who are being held in various Indian prisons, including Tihar Jail in Delhi, Jodhpur Jail, Agra Jail, and Ambala Jail. The spokesperson emphasized that the physical and mental well-being of several detainees has been severely impacted by the harsh jail conditions.
The APHC also pointed to credible reports indicating that detainee Insha Jan is critically ill and has become severely weakened due to the lack of medical attention.
The APHC called upon the international community and human rights organizations to take urgent notice of the plight of these detainees and pressure the Indian government for their immediate release. The spokesperson further stressed that India’s use of repression and fear will not deter the Kashmiri people from their struggle for self-determination and that a resolution to the Kashmir dispute is vital for regional peace and stability.
