APHC Demands Release of Detained Leaders Ahead of Eid in Kashmir

Srinagar, The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has voiced deep concern over the continuous illegal detention of thousands of Kashmiris, including key pro-freedom leaders, by Indian authorities in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The organization has called for the immediate release of these individuals before the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations, highlighting the prolonged unjust imprisonment of several notable figures.

According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas condemned the Modi government’s treatment of Kashmiri pro-freedom leaders and activists as a form of political revenge. Notably, APHC Chairman Masarrat Alam Butt has been in detention for nine years, while senior leader Shabir Ahmed Shah and JKLF Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik have faced years of imprisonment on fabricated charges.

The statement released by the APHC underscores the dire situation of these leaders, including Dukhtaran-e-Millat chairperson Syeda Asiya Andrabi and her associates, who have all been detained without just cause. The APHC criticized the detention of other Hurriyat leaders and activists across various jails in India and IIOJK, many of whom are held far from their homes.

The APHC’s demand for the release of political prisoners comes amidst broader accusations against the Narendra Modi-led government for attempting to impose its Hindutva agenda and alter the demographic composition of IIOJK. The organization accused every Indian action since the controversial August 5, 2019, changes as being aimed at eroding the cultural, linguistic, and religious identity of Muslims in the region.

The spokesman called upon the people of IIOJK to support the families of the detained leaders and other victims of state terrorism, emphasizing the community’s obligation to assist those in distress. Additionally, the APHC urged Kashmiris to remain alert to Indian conspiracies, advocating for unity in the face of attempts to weaken their resolve against illegal occupation.
