APHC Demands Justice for 1993 Sopore Massacre Victims

Srinagar, The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has called for an international response to the worsening situation in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), emphasizing the need for justice for the victims of the 1993 Sopore massacre and other violent incidents.

According to Kashmir Media Service, on January 6, 1993, Indian troops of the Border Security Force (BSF) were responsible for the deaths of over 60 innocent Kashmiris in Sopore, during which they also set fire to more than 400 shops and residential houses. This act not only resulted in loss of life but also devastated the town’s economy.

Leaders and organizations affiliated with the APHC, including Professor Abdul Ghani Butt, Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori, Abdul Samad Inqilabi, and others, issued statements in Srinagar condemning the brutality of Indian forces. They described the massacre as a direct attack on the civilian population and an attempt to destroy the region’s economic infrastructure.

The APHC emphasized that the sacrifices made by Kashmiris are a fundamental aspect of their ongoing struggle for freedom. They called for an impartial international investigation into the Sopore massacre and similar incidents to hold the Indian troops accountable for their actions.

Furthermore, the APHC highlighted the long-standing nature of the Kashmir conflict, noting that since 1947, hundreds of thousands of Kashmiris have lost their lives in the pursuit of freedom from India’s illegal occupation. They stressed that resolving the Kashmir dispute is essential for achieving lasting peace in South Asia.
