APHC Declares Jammu and Kashmir an Internationally Recognized Disputed Territory

Srinagar, The All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC) has reiterated its position that Jammu and Kashmir remains a disputed territory, recognized as such by the United Nations Security Council through its resolutions.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the APHC spokesperson, in a detailed statement from Srinagar, criticized the actions of the BJP-led Indian government for its August 5, 2019, decision to bifurcate Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories. This move, the spokesperson argued, contravenes the United Nations Charter, relevant Security Council resolutions, and bilateral agreements between Pakistan and India.

The statement strongly denounced the policies of the Modi administration towards the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), accusing the Indian government of oppressing the Kashmiri people and attempting to silence dissent through force and intimidation.

Highlighting the resolve of the Kashmiri youth, the APHC spokesperson praised their courage and sacrifices in the face of what he described as India’s illegal occupation. He called on the Indian government to abandon its hardline stance and recognize that genuine freedom movements cannot be quelled by military might.

Further addressing the treatment of Kashmiri political leaders and activists, the spokesperson condemned their arbitrary detention and the denial of fair trial rights, labeling these actions as reflective of India’s colonial mindset. The treatment of prisoners and the harassment of their families were also highlighted as major concerns.

The APHC’s call to action extended to the international community and influential global governments, urging them to acknowledge the worsening situation in IIOJK and to work towards a resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions. The resolution of this long-standing issue, the APHC suggests, is essential for peace and stability in the region.
