APHC Criticizes Intensified Repression in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has condemned the increasing repression in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, citing a rise in cordon and search operations, raids, extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests, and property confiscations by Indian forces in the region.

According to Kashmir Media Service, a statement from APHC spokesperson Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas in Srinagar criticized the unchecked powers given to Indian troops, paramilitary forces, and police under draconian laws, which have led to widespread violence against Kashmiris. Minhas accused Indian troops of torturing detained youth and conducting staged encounters resulting in their deaths. He highlighted that since 1989, hundreds of Kashmiri youth have been extrajudicially executed by Indian forces.

Minhas also disclosed that the BJP-led government and its appointed Lieutenant Governor in Jammu and Kashmir have created a list targeting pro-freedom activists, intellectuals, youth, and journalists for systematic persecution. He claimed that thousands of Kashmiris, including Hurriyat leaders, are imprisoned on fabricated charges, aiming to punish them for seeking self-determination. He opposed the BJP government’s claims of normalization in Kashmir following the revocation of Articles 370 and 35A, asserting that the ground reality contradicts such claims.

The APHC has appealed to international human rights organizations to intervene and halt India’s escalating oppression in the region. Minhas urged the United Nations to pressure India into resolving the Kashmir dispute in line with its resolutions.
