APHC Criticizes Indian Regime for Ill-Treatment of Kashmiri Detainees

Srinagar, The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has strongly criticized the Indian government, led by the Hindutva regime, for its harsh treatment of Hurriyat leaders and activists, who continue to face prolonged and unjustified detention in various jails.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the APHC spokesperson condemned the inhumane conditions faced by Kashmiri political prisoners in Indian jails, emphasizing that their treatment is unprecedented in human history. The spokesperson highlighted the plight of numerous elderly leaders and activists who suffer from multiple health issues but are denied necessary medical attention.

The statement praised the resilience of incarcerated APHC Chairman Masarrat Aalam Butt, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Asiya Andrabi, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, and thousands of others imprisoned in Tihar, Agra, Jodhpur, Karnal, and other Indian jails. Their only “crime,” the statement noted, is their demand for the right to self-determination, as promised by the United Nations Security Council.

The APHC stressed that life has become increasingly challenging for the Kashmiri people under the oppressive Indian regime, which employs a militarized governance system and uses agencies like the NIA, ED, and SIA to quash the Kashmiri’s legitimate demands for self-determination.

Furthermore, the statement expressed grave concern over ongoing cordon and search operations and house raids, pointing out that the Indian government has stripped Kashmiris of their fundamental rights, including the right to life. The statement also criticized the appointment of RR Swain as the region’s police chief, noting his anti-Kashmir and anti-Muslim stance as reflective of his Hindutva mindset.

The APHC called on international organizations, including the United Nations Council for Human Rights, Amnesty International, Asia Watch, and the International Committee of the Red Cross, to urge India to allow inspections of the dire conditions faced by illegally detained Hurriyat leaders and activists.
