SRINAGAR: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has sharply criticized the Indian government’s approach to the Kashmir conflict, labeling it as ruthless and militaristic. The organization has called for international intervention to address what it describes as ongoing human rights violations in the region.
According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesman Abdul Rashid Minhas issued a statement in Srinagar highlighting the resilience of Kashmiris in their pursuit of self-determination. The spokesman paid tribute to those who have died in areas such as Sopore, Gawakdal, Handwara, and Kupwara, asserting that their sacrifices for freedom from Indian control will be honored.
Minhas emphasized the determination of the Kashmiri people despite facing what he described as suppression and repression, which he claimed has challenged the Indian military’s stance and disrupted its objectives. He praised the steadfastness of several prisoners of conscience, including notable names like Masarrat Aalam Butt and Shabbir Ahmed Shah, who are detained in Indian facilities.
The APHC has urged the United Nations Human Rights Council and other organizations to inspect the conditions in Indian and IIOJK jails and advocate for the release of detained leaders and activists. The spokesman also called on the international community to support the Kashmiris’ struggle for self-determination and address the alleged human rights abuses in the region.
In a related development, Ali Raza Syed, Chairman of Kashmir Council Europe, has called for global attention to the 1993 Sopore massacre, urging an international investigation into the incident. Speaking in Brussels, he described the massacre as a severe human rights violation. Syed called on the UN and EU to ensure accountability and support Kashmiris’ right to self-determination as per UN resolutions.
