APHC Commemorates Victims of Zakura and Tengpora Massacres in IIOJK

Srinagar, Leaders of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) have commemorated the 34th anniversary of the Zakura and Tengpora massacres, paying homage to the over 50 individuals who were killed during protests in 1990 in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

According to Kashmir Media Service, the incidents, which occurred on March 1, 1990, saw Indian troops open fire on peaceful demonstrators in the Srinagar areas of Zakura and Tengpora, resulting in the death of more than 50 people and leaving dozens injured. APHC leaders, including Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori, Syed Bashir Andrabi, and others, have declared these events part of India’s ongoing genocidal campaign in the territory. They criticized the fact that after 34 years, justice remains elusive for the victims’ families and the memories of these events are still vivid among the people of IIOJK.

The leaders further stated that IIOJK has turned into the world’s most militarized zone, with Indian troops committing severe human rights violations. They insisted that despite the atrocities, the Kashmiri freedom movement could not be suppressed. The APHC called for the UN War Crimes Tribunal to conduct impartial proceedings against the troops involved in the massacres, asserting that the sacrifices of Kashmiri martyrs would not be in vain and that an Indian defeat was evident.
