APHC Calls for UN Intervention to Release Kashmiri Detainees

Srinagar, The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has called on the United Nations and other international human rights organizations, such as Asia Watch and Amnesty International, to intervene and pressure India to release Kashmiri political detainees from both Indian and occupied territory jails.

According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas released a statement in Srinagar, highlighting the ongoing illegal detentions of thousands, including APHC leaders, Ulema, journalists, youth activists, and human rights defenders. Minhas emphasized that these detentions and other oppressive measures could not suppress the Kashmiri people’s struggle for self-determination.

The statement also detailed the severe human rights violations and repressive measures faced by the Kashmiri population, including torture, arbitrary arrests, lifetime imprisonments, and extrajudicial killings by Indian forces. It criticized the Modi government’s policies, which it described as anti-Muslim and colonial, predicting further hardships for the Kashmiris.

Furthermore, Minhas expressed significant concern for the welfare of specific detainees such as APHC Chairman Masarat Aalam Butt, and others, who have become symbols of the Kashmiri resistance. He also called on the Indian media and civil society to advocate for dialogue between India and Pakistan to address and resolve the Jammu and Kashmir issue, which he termed crucial for regional peace and prosperity.
