APHC Calls for Kashmir Dialogue, Remembers Rizwan Pandit

Srinagar, The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has emphasized the need for a peaceful resolution to the Kashmir conflict through dialogue between Pakistan and India, linking the dispute’s settlement to broader regional peace. Additionally, the APHC commemorated the fifth anniversary of Rizwan Ahmed Pandit, a local school principal whose death in custody highlights ongoing human rights concerns in the region.

According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesperson Advocate Abdul Rasheed Minhas expressed the organization’s tribute to Pandit, who died under torture while detained by Indian forces in 2019. His death is presented as a stark example of the human rights abuses Kashmiris have faced, particularly underlining the issue of custodial violence.

Minhas recounted the brutal circumstances of Pandit’s death, including detailed descriptions of the torture he endured, as shared by Pandit’s brother, underscoring the severity of the abuse. This tragedy, Ad per Minhas, is reflective of a broader pattern of extrajudicial killings and torture in Kashmir, especially pronounced during the intense periods of the 1990s.

The APHC spokesman used this somber anniversary to call attention to the ongoing struggles within Kashmir and criticized the international community’s lack of response to these human rights violations. He urged for meaningful dialogue and action to address the Kashmir issue, presenting it as critical for peace and stability in South Asia and significant in the context of global geopolitics.
