Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has called upon the international community to intervene and encourage India to engage in a peaceful resolution of the ongoing Kashmir dispute, in line with United Nations resolutions and the desires of the Kashmiri populace. The APHC criticized India’s recent actions in the region, including the suspension of Kashmiri government workers and the seizure of properties owned by local activists, as attempts to quash the region’s freedom movement.
According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas issued a statement condemning these measures, describing them as incapable of suppressing the will of the Kashmiri people, who are determined to see their struggle for freedom through to its logical conclusion. Minhas highlighted that the local population firmly rejects Indian sovereignty and has not accepted the unilateral abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A in August 2019, which revoked the region’s special status.
The statement further criticized the policies of the current Indian government, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which it accused of employing coercive tactics to silence the demands for self-determination—a right acknowledged by the United Nations. The APHC also noted the widespread detention of Kashmiri leaders as part of India’s strategy to stifle the region’s quest for autonomy.
Reiterating its stance, the APHC called for the resolution of the Kashmir issue in a manner that respects the rights and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, in accordance with relevant UN resolutions. The group urged international bodies, including the UN, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, and the European Union, to pressure India to cease the prohibition of political parties in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) that advocate for the region’s self-determination and political resolution.
