APHC Calls for International Action on Kashmir Crisis Amidst Sopore Massacre Anniversary

Srinagar, Leaders of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) have called for global intervention in the worsening situation in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), especially in light of the anniversary of the Sopore massacre.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the Sopore massacre, which occurred in 1993, resulted in over 60 civilian deaths and the destruction of more than 400 shops and residences in the Sopore town of Baramulla district by Indian soldiers. Decades later, the families of the victims continue to seek justice, while the perpetrators remain unpunished.

APHC leaders and organizations, including prominent figures like Professor Abdul Ghani Butt, Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori, Abdul Samad Inqilabi, and others, expressed their condemnation in statements made in Srinagar. They highlighted the ongoing crimes against humanity and war crimes committed by Indian troops in an attempt to quash the Kashmiri freedom struggle. The leaders demanded an impartial international investigation into all massacres within the occupied territory to bring the culprits to justice.

Meanwhile, the Indian government, led by Narendra Modi, continues its aggressive tactics in occupied Kashmir, including the recent seizure of civilian Mushtaq Ahmad’s property in the Chanapora area of Srinagar. This action follows the confiscation of the APHC headquarters, as well as numerous residential and commercial properties belonging to Hurriyat leaders and organizations.

In Muzaffarabad, a forceful anti-India protest demonstration was held at Burhan Wani Chowk, marking 31 years since the Sopore massacre. The event, organized by Tehreek-e-Shababul Muslimeen Students Wing, saw a significant turnout, with participants holding banners and placards denouncing Indian state terrorism in occupied Kashmir.

Additionally, the World Kashmir Awareness Forum, based in Washington, took its message to the streets of New York. On Kashmiris’ Right to Self-Determination Day, mobile billboard trucks displayed messages urging the UN to grant the people of Jammu and Kashmir their right to self-determination. The electronic screens of these trucks featured strong statements against Indian occupation and called for Kashmir’s freedom.
