APHC Asserts UN Obligation to Uphold Kashmiris’ Right to Self-Determination

Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC) has proclaimed the United Nations’ obligation to initiate the restoration of the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination, a principle enshrined in international law and UN Security Council resolutions.

According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesman Advocate Abdur Rahid Minhas issued a statement in Srinagar, declaring that the region of Jammu and Kashmir is acknowledged as an international dispute under the UN Security Council resolutions, with a plebiscite being the primary demand of the oppressed populace of Jammu and Kashmir.

“The APHC leadership serves as the legitimate voice of the oppressed people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir in advocating for a plebiscite as stipulated by UN resolutions,” Minhas stated.

Further, the statement highlighted that elections conducted under Indian authority are meaningless and valueless. It also accused the Indian government of altering the demographic composition of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, in clear violation of UN resolutions.

Minhas emphasized that the elections in the region are a sham, noting that true representatives of the people, including Masarrat Aalam Butt, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Muhammad Yasin Malik, and Syeda Aasiya Andrabi, are imprisoned, and the movement of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is restricted by the BJP regime.

The APHC asserts that the Kashmiris demand a plebiscite, not elections, under UN supervision to determine their political future a promise made by the global community.

He reinforced that the All Parties Hurriyet Conference represents the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and is at the forefront of efforts to resolve the Kashmir dispute in accordance with UN resolutions.

In a related development, APHC AJK leaders, including Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, Altaf Ahmed Butt, Zahid Safi, Zahid Ashraf, and Uzair Ahmed Ghazali, denounced the statements made by Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar on Kashmir, labeling them as deceitful and misleading to the global community.
