APHC Announces Shutdown in Kashmir During Prime Minister Modi’s Visit

Srinagar, The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has declared a complete shutdown in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) for tomorrow, coinciding with the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the UN-recognized disputed territory. This call for a shutdown is a form of protest against what the APHC describes as India’s illegal occupation and the policies of the BJP/RSS government that are seen as anti-Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas articulated the multiple grievances prompting the shutdown, including protest against human rights violations, illegal arrests, the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A, the dismissal of Kashmiri government employees, and the seizure of properties in IIOJK. The APHC is leveraging the occasion of Modi’s visit to spotlight these issues and galvanize public sentiment towards advocating for the resolution of the Kashmir dispute, a step they deem essential for regional peace.

Minhas emphasized the intention behind Modi’s visit as an attempt to divert international attention from the ongoing human rights abuses committed by occupation forces in Kashmir. He called upon the international community to intervene in the Kashmir dispute, highlighting its critical role in ensuring peace and stability in South Asia and alleviating the suffering of the Kashmiri people.

In solidarity with the APHC’s stance, the People’s League Jammu Kashmir has also endorsed the call for a shutdown in the territory. This collective action aims to send a strong message to the world about the Kashmiri people’s rejection of Indian policies and their unwavering demand for self-determination and an end to the occupation.
