APHC-AJK Marks Martyrdom Anniversary of Afzal Guru with Resolute Tribute

Islamabad, The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter commemorated the martyrdom anniversary of the distinguished Kashmiri liberation leader, Muhammad Afzal Guru, emphasizing the unwavering commitment of Kashmiris to their quest for self-determination.

According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC Convener Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, in his statement from Islamabad, underscored the enduring sacrifices made by Kashmiris in their struggle for freedom, including the ultimate sacrifice by Muhammad Afzal Guru. Saghar reiterated the Kashmiri determination to see through the mission of Afzal Guru, Muhammad Maqbool Butt, and countless other martyrs who have laid down their lives for the cause.

Saghar highlighted the failure of Indian efforts to quell the Kashmiri freedom movement through force, advocating for India to recognize the prevailing realities and seek a peaceful resolution to the Kashmir issue. He also voiced concerns over the fate of Hurriyat leaders currently detained under various charges in Indian and Kashmiri prisons, fearing they might face the same fate as Afzal Guru and Maqbool Butt.

The APHC Convener called on the global community to take notice of the unfounded accusations against these leaders and to exert pressure on India for their release. He reminded that Muhammad Afzal Guru was executed in Tihar Jail on this day in 2013, despite his prominent role in the freedom movement, and was buried within the jail premises, a move that has drawn widespread condemnation from Kashmiri groups and human rights advocates.

The commemoration by the APHC-AJK serves as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made in the ongoing struggle for Kashmiri self-determination and a call for international intervention to address the human rights concerns in the region.
