APHC-AJK Leader Denounces 1947 Indian Attack on Jammu and Kashmir as Historic Injustice

Islamabad: Muhammad Farooq Rahmani, a senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter, denounced India’s air attack on Jammu and Kashmir on October 27, 1947, as a significant injustice against peaceful, unarmed Kashmiris. He asserted that the incident continues to resonate as a profound blemish on India’s history and has spurred numerous political and economic issues.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Rahmani articulated in a statement that the 1947 aggression was not merely a moment of historical error but a foundational cause of ongoing political and economic disturbances in the region. He highlighted that India’s actions since the early 1930s, including denying Kashmiris their freedom and the 22 lives lost to the Dogra army, underscore a long history of suppression. The leader further noted the insecurity these actions have instilled both in Jammu and Kashmir and across the subcontinent, plunging the future of countless Kashmiris into uncertainty.

Rahmani also criticized recent Indian policies, particularly the 2019 actions purported to alter the demographic makeup of occupied Jammu and Kashmir, which he claims have eroded the cultural and political identity of the area. He emphasized the need for United Nations intervention to address the ongoing violations and uphold Kashmiris’ rights to self-determination in line with international resolutions.
