APHC-AJK Leader Calls for UN Fact-Finding Mission to Jammu and Kashmir

Islamabad: Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, a senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK), has urged the United Nations to send a fact-finding team to the Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir to investigate alleged human rights violations.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Rehmani strongly criticized the Indian government’s policies in the region since its integration into India in August 2019. He highlighted the widespread arrest of political figures, civil society members, and restrictions on media and social platforms as evidence of what he described as neo-colonial practices by New Delhi.

Rehmani condemned recent measures including the granting of citizenship and land rights to certain refugee groups, which he argued were part of a broader agenda to alter the demographic and cultural landscape of Jammu and Kashmir. He called on the UN Secretary General to intervene to prevent further escalations and ensure a comprehensive review of the situation on the ground, following the revocation of Article 370 and 35A.

The appeal for UN involvement underscores ongoing tensions and the international dimension of the Kashmir dispute, seeking global attention to what the APHC describes as a deteriorating situation in terms of law, order, and human rights in the area.
