Islamabad: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter held a special prayer gathering to mark the 87th death anniversary of Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal, a revered poet and philosopher.
During the event, organized by APHC-AJK, speakers extolled Dr. Iqbal’s legacy, noting his role in awakening the Muslim community and inspiring a sense of freedom and self-awareness. His influence on Muslim thought and identity was a central theme highlighted by those in attendance.
Speakers emphasized how Iqbal’s philosophy empowered Muslims of the subcontinent with spiritual and intellectual strength, motivating them to pursue liberation. His concept of “Khudi,” or selfhood, was cited as a critical idea for understanding one’s true identity and the value of freedom.
The connection between Iqbal’s teachings and the Kashmiri people was underscored, with speakers pointing out that his poetry has long conveyed messages of resilience and struggle to Kashmir’s oppressed. Iqbal’s solidarity with Kashmir was noted as both spiritual and intellectual.
In addition to honoring Iqbal, Hurriyat leaders called on the United Nations and international human rights organizations to pressure India to grant Kashmiris their right to self-determination, aiming for peace in South Asia.
The gathering concluded with prayers for Iqbal’s soul, Kashmir’s martyrs, Jammu and Kashmir’s freedom, and Pakistan’s strength. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to the Kashmir freedom movement in line with Iqbal’s vision.
Notable figures at the event included Hurriyat leaders such as Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, Advocate Parvez Ahmed, and others, as they collectively paid tribute to the enduring legacy of Allama Iqbal.
