APHC-AJK expresses concern over arrest of APHC leaders Yasmeen Raja, Zamruda Habib in IIOJK

Islamabad, May 19, 2023 (PPI-OT): All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter has expressed serious concern over the arrest of APHC leaders Yasmeen Raja and Zamruda Habib in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. APHC-AJK chapter Convener Mahmood Ahmad Saghar in a statement issued in Islamabad said Hurriyat leaders are being arrested on false charges by the Indian government as part of its policy to create an atmosphere of fear and terror in the occupied territory.

He said the Modi government is continuing the military operation against the Kashmiri Hurriyat leadership and the pro-freedom people in IIOJK and the other day, the Indian troops raided the houses of senior APHC leader Shabbir Ahmad Shah and others who were illegally detained. In addition to harassing the families, he deplored that the documents of the houses were seized.

Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, strongly condemning these actions of the Indian troops, said the spirit of freedom of Hurriyat leaders cannot be weakened through such tactics. He termed the continued illegal detention of Hurriyat leaders and activists as a serious violation of basic human rights and said the Indian government is using the arrests as a weapon to suppress dissent in the occupied territory.

The APHC-AJK Convener said India will never succeed in its nefarious designs with such cruel measures and urged the UN Security Council and international human rights organizations to increase pressure on New Delhi to immediately release Hurriyat leaders and settle the Kashmir dispute according to the will of the Kashmiri people. It should be mentioned that the Indian police had arrested Yasmeen Raja and Zamruda Habib from Srinagar and lodged them at the Women’s Police Station in Ram Bagh, Srinagar.
