APHC-AJK Criticizes Indian Government for Repressive Tactics in Kashmir

Islamabad, The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter has issued a strong condemnation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Indian government for employing repressive measures against Kashmiris. These actions include the attachment of properties of Hurriyet leaders and activists, banning pro-freedom political parties, and terrorizing individuals advocating for their right to self-determination.

According to Kashmir Media Service, leaders of the APHC-AJK, including Altaf Ahmad Butt, Shaikh Muhammad Yaqoob, and others, in their separate statements, accused the Modi administration of resorting to colonial-era tactics. These measures are aimed at suppressing the will of Hurriyat leaders and the broader Kashmiri population, attempting to intimidate them into submission and undermine their economic stability.

The APHC-AJK leaders criticized the Indian government’s banning of political organizations such as Jamaat-e-Islami, Muslim Conference, and others, labeling these actions as a mockery of democracy. They argue that such draconian measures cannot silence voices raised in pursuit of justice. Despite these challenges, the leaders affirmed that the Hurriyat and the Kashmiri people would not be deterred by these oppressive tactics.

The appeal was made to the international community to intervene and assist in resolving the Kashmir dispute, highlighting the need to protect Kashmiris from what they describe as “Hindutva terrorism.” In addition to collective statements, APHC-AJK leader Engineer Mushtaq Mehmood specifically denounced the ban on the Muslim Conference and the legal actions against Kashmiri activist Abdul Hameed Lone. He also criticized the Indian government’s orders to seize properties of Hurriyat leaders, framing these measures as unlawful attempts to quash political dissent in the occupied territory.

This condemnation from the APHC-AJK underscores the continuing tensions and human rights concerns in Kashmir, spotlighting the aggressive policies of the Indian government towards political opposition and activists in the region.
