APHC-AJK Commemorates Victims of 1993 Sopore Massacre

Islamabad, The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir chapter (APHC-AJK) has commemorated the victims of the 1993 Sopore massacre in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, paying tribute to the lives lost.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the tragic incident occurred in 1993 when personnel of the Indian Border Security Force allegedly went on a rampage, resulting in over 60 civilian deaths and the destruction of more than 400 shops, residential houses, and other structures in Sopore.

APHC-AJK Convener Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, along with leaders Ghulam Muhammad Safi, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, Shaikh Abdul Mateen, Imityaz Wani, Shameem Shawl, Zahid Safi, Mushtaq Ahmed Butt, and Muhammad Shafi Dar, issued statements expressing solidarity with the families of the victims. They emphasized that the sacrifices of the Kashmiri martyrs would not be forgotten. The leaders criticized the Indian government for turning occupied Jammu and Kashmir into what they described as a large prison, especially highlighting the ongoing siege since August 5, 2019.

They referred to the Sopore massacre as a grim reminder of the militarization and oppression under India’s democratic guise. The APHC-AJK leaders condemned the Indian government for allegedly enabling its forces to commit atrocities under draconian laws with impunity. They called for an impartial investigation into the massacre and other similar incidents to bring the perpetrators to justice.
