APHC-AJK commemorates martyrdom anniversary of Shaikh Aziz

Islamabad, August 11, 2021 (PPI-OT): The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter organised a seminar at its office in Islamabad, today, to commemorate the 13th martyrdom anniversary of senior Hurriyat leader, Shaheed-e-Azeemat, Shaikh Abdul Aziz.

The Hurriyat leaders while recalling the contributions of Shaikh Abdul Aziz towards the Kashmir freedom struggle said that he was one of the pioneers of the ongoing resistance movement who lived and died for the sacred cause of freedom. They said that Shaikh Abdul Aziz dedicated his whole life for the cause and worked tirelessly for making the resistance movement a success at gross root level on multiple dimensions.

“It was his sincerity, honesty, dedication, fearlessness and courage for the cause which made him a specific target of Indian occupational forces and agencies and under a well hatched criminal conspiracy he was assassinated on 11 August 2008 in Uri,” they said.

The speakers said that Shaikh Abdul Aziz will always be remembered as a leader who always believed to lead from the front. His immense contributions would form a golden chapter of our resistance history, they added.

Sheikh Abdul Aziz was martyred on 11 August 2008 when he was leading a march from Srinagar to Muzaffarabad against the economic blockade of the Kashmir Valley by the Hindu fanatics of Jammu. The economic blockade imposed by the extremist Hindu organization Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) was aimed at killing the Kashmiri population by starvation.

The situation had created unusual circumstances for the residents of the Valley, forcing Sheikh Abdul Aziz and other Hurriyat leaders to demand opening of the Srinagar-Rawalpindi road for trade and travel to save the Kashmiri people from hunger and death.
