APHC-AJK Calls on OIC to Pressure India for Peaceful Resolution in Kashmir

Islamabad, The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter has formally requested the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to intervene and pressure India to resolve the Kashmir dispute through a UN-supervised plebiscite. This plea aims to allow the Kashmiri people to determine their political future amidst ongoing regional tensions.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the APHC-AJK, in a detailed letter to OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha, denounced the Narendra Modi-led government’s approach to Kashmir, describing it as a facade of democracy masking severe human rights abuses and suppression of fundamental freedoms since the revocation of the region’s special status in 2019. The letter, penned by APHC-AJK Convener Mehmood Ahmad Saghar, criticizes India’s use of elections as a smokescreen to legitimize its control while continuing to violate the rights of the Kashmiri people.

The APHC-AJK’s correspondence highlights the harsh conditions under which journalists, political activists, and civilians in Kashmir operate, facing excessive force, arbitrary detentions, and even torture. It accuses the Indian government of manipulating electoral outcomes through military intimidation and the suppression of free speech, which skew the electoral process in favor of pro-India candidates.

In its appeal, the APHC-AJK urges the OIC to advocate for a significant reduction in military presence, an end to human rights abuses, the release of all political prisoners, and the initiation of inclusive and meaningful dialogue. These steps are seen as essential to paving the way for a plebiscite under international supervision, as stipulated by UN resolutions, offering a peaceful solution to the Kashmir dispute.
