APHC-AJK Appeals to UN for Action on Plight of Kashmiri Detainees

Islamabad, The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter has called on the United Nations and international human rights organizations to address the plight of Hurriyat leaders and activists detained in Indian and Occupied Jammu and Kashmir jails.

According to Kashmir Media Service, this appeal was made during a meeting of APHC-AJK in Islamabad, chaired by its convener, Mehmood Ahmed Saghar. The meeting focused on the dire situation faced by detained Hurriyat leaders and workers, highlighting the lack of basic facilities, including medical treatment, leading to severe health issues among detainees.

The APHC-AJK leaders criticized the United Nations for overlooking the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination and accused the Modi government of treating Kashmiri Muslims as second-class citizens. They contended that the Indian government has disregarded the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Geneva Convention, and the UN Human Rights Commission’s reports on Jammu and Kashmir from 2018 and 2019.

Mehmood Ahmad Saghar, addressing the meeting, emphasized the perceived neglect of Kashmiri Muslims by Indian authorities. The meeting also included special prayers for the martyrs of the Kashmir liberation movement and those in Palestine.

APHC-AJK leaders including Syed Yusuf Naseem, Imtiaz Wani, Syed Ejaz Rahmani, Raja Khadim Hussain, Zahid Safi, Mushtaq Ahmed Butt, Mian Muzaffar, Syed Mushtaq Gilani, Gulshan Ahmed, and Nazir Ahmed attended the meeting.

This meeting represents a continued effort by the APHC-AJK to draw international attention to the human rights situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
