Srinagar, The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has raised alarms over the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government’s actions in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, accusing it of forcefully implementing an agenda that strips the people of their fundamental rights.
According to Kashmir Media Service, a spokesperson for the APHC in Srinagar issued a statement strongly criticizing the Indian government’s policies. The statement highlighted India’s use of an imperialistic and Hindutva approach to suppress the legitimate demands of the people in the territory. The APHC denounced these measures as an infringement on the rights of the Kashmiri people.
The spokesperson also addressed the Indian government’s tendency to blame Pakistan for pro-freedom activities in the region, clarifying that the Kashmiri struggle for self-determination is an indigenous movement without foreign support. However, the statement acknowledged Pakistan’s political, moral, and diplomatic backing of the Kashmiris’ quest for freedom, given Pakistan’s status as a party in the Kashmir dispute.
Concerns were raised about the BJP’s alleged strategy of introducing non-state subjects into the population of the Jammu region. The APHC views this as an attempt to establish a BJP government and enforce a strict colonial rule in the occupied territory. This move is part of a broader scheme to alter the demographic makeup of the region.
The statement further expressed the need for intervention by the United Nations Secretary General, António Guterres, particularly following the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019. The APHC believes this intervention is necessary to address the deprivation of political, social, religious, and other fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people and to mitigate Indian aggression in the area.
