Anti-Encroachment Operation in Murree Escalates into Clashes, Officials Injured

Murree, Under the directive of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, a significant anti-encroachment operation was initiated against illegal constructions on forest land in Murree, leading to clashes between the district administration and alleged offenders. The operation, which saw the demolition of several illegal structures, resulted in injuries to administration staff from both gunfire and stone pelting.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the operation took place across multiple locations in Murree including Bansara Galli, Cart Road, Shortcut Road, Upper Jhika Galli Road, Circuit Road, Lakot Expressway, Darya Galli, and Shivala. During these actions, several illegal plazas were demolished as part of the crackdown on rampant encroachments that have long plagued the region.

The conflict during the operation led to the injury of an official by firearm and another by stone pelting, prompting the registration of an FIR against the assailants. Authorities have since launched raids to apprehend those responsible for attacking the administration staff.

Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb lauded the bravery and effectiveness of the district administration in carrying out the operation. She underscored the commitment to uphold the law and promised strict action against those violating land regulations. Aurangzeb also reinforced that the operations will continue in the coming days, reflecting Chief Minister Sharif’s resolve to reject any pressure and address illegal encroachments decisively.
