Washington, D.C., November 08, 2023: Ambassador Masood Khan, Pakistan’s envoy to the United States, emphasized the need for peace, stability, and prosperity in South Asia during his interaction with a student delegation from the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University.
According to Embassy of Pakistan, Washington D.C, Ambassador Khan addressed the South Asian Policy and Research Initiative (SAPRI), advocating for the creation of a peaceful, secure, and prosperous neighborhood. He stressed the importance of empowering individuals and integrating marginalized communities into the mainstream without compromise.
SAPRI, a student-led initiative, focuses on highlighting developmental challenges in South Asia and promoting evidence-based policy solutions. The delegation comprised students from Pakistan, India, and Singapore.
Ambassador Khan pointed out the current lack of cohesion in South Asia, citing the absence of connectivity and persistent unresolved disputes as significant obstacles to economic collaboration. He asserted that diplomacy and dialogue should be the tools to resolve conflicts, not warfare, and negotiations should continue relentlessly until resolution is achieved.
He highlighted the European Union and Western Europe as positive models for establishing economic linkages and partnerships. He critiqued the approach of some countries to ignore pressing issues, insisting that problems cannot be simply swept under the carpet.
In terms of Pakistan-U.S. relations, Ambassador Khan stated that the relationship between the two countries is robust and not influenced by Pakistan’s ties with China. He envisioned that sustained investments, business linkages, and people-to-people exchanges would ensure a resilient and lasting relationship between Pakistan and the United States.
